On October 16,2009 WAIT Training hosted a National Conference with well known researchers and authors speaking to the diverse crowd of youth advocates and wellness experts at the Arapahoe County Centre Point Health and Human Service Building in Aurora Colorado.
Dr Scott Stanley, Co Director of the Center for Marital and Family Studies at University of Denver spoke about the research regarding cohabitation and how most couples “Slide” rather than “Decide” into these partnerships that many times eliminate life options before someone says to themselves, “ How did I get here?” Then much undue drama occurs as couples try to sort out their relationship.
Dr Freda Bush, a well known OB/GYN doctor from Jackson Mississippi, coauthor of the ground breaking book, Hooked, New Science on How Casual Sex is Affecting Our Children outlined the nuerochemical attachments that occur when sexual play begins in a relationship. The particpants of the counference were amazed at this new body of literature.
Tammy Borgias, WAIT Training Executive Director introduced WAIT Training’s newest product highlighting BASIC TRAINING, a school or community based curriula addressing puberty science: how one will grow and change physcially, emotionally and mentally, grooming, character education and the basics of friendship.
Shelly Donahue, the national lead trainer for WAIT Training talked about how teens are responding to love and relationship education across the country as they share the longings of their hearts with Shelly.
Finally, Joneen Mackenzie RN, President and Founder of WAIT Training outlined the three legged stool of poverty prevention through healthy family formation skill building for teens, adults and especially for promoting responsible fatherhood and the issue of father absence in a child’s life.
The WAIT Training Team and the particpants were pleased with the day’s events as outlined in the evaluations and testimonials. We all look forward to expanding our national confernece next year.
